Bryan Culberson Scholarship Fund

Bryan was the patrol leader of the Fire Snakes Patrol of Boy Scouts of America Troop 400 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Durham, NC. He had earned the rank of Tenderfoot and was posthumously presented with the Spirit of the Eagle Award by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America in Irving, TX. His troop was a tremendous support to our family when Bryan was injured. They brought food to the family and came to the hospital to wait with us as he struggled to live. They were the very epitomy of what scouting should mean. We will always be grateful for their love and care.

This scholarship was formed by Bryan's family and Boy Scout Troop 400 in response to the overwhelming outpouring of support that we received when Bryan died. Friends and family wanted to do more than just send cards and flowers. They wanted Bryan to be remembered in a meaningful way, so a fund was established to provide a scholarship each year to a deserving member of Bryan's troop. An Eagle Scout from Troop 400 will receive $2000 to go to pursue higher education in college or the military. At the discretion of the scholarship committee, secondary awards of $500 may also be awarded to up to two additional applicants.

Bryan loved being a Boy Scout. He liked nothing better than hiking in the woods. He spent many weekends camping with his friends, learning to be a good and honest young man.
